Time Trialing Wheelsets Wheelsets have evolved over the years. There was a time when 28 spoked rear and radial in front was extreme by most standards. The rims were anything but Aero. Now with lighter and stronger materials the options are infinite.The lighter your rims the less rotational mass for the rider to push, hence more speed and less fatigue. The latest material to come into vogue is carbon fiber, (it has been here for a time) It has a high strength density, so it is ideal for this application.The majority of pro's use some form of it. Usually a deep walled front setup and if wind conditions are good a disc on back. Some use a 3 spoked carbon on front but wind tunnel tests show the disc and deep wall to be the fastest. You have to get it right when every second counts. The top of the line wheels sport ceramic bearings.Vast time is saved with these.Some advantages are; Super low friction,no corrosion,harder than steel, & 60% lighter.
